Special Advocates
The Attorney General's Office, together with the Treasury Solicitor, has taken forward a programme of work to enhance the level of support, training and information provided to Special Advocates and to improve the operation of the Special Advocates system. This has resulted in the implementation of a package of new measures, including the preparation of a comprehensive training pack for Special Advocates, comprising both an open and closed manual.
The open manual sets out the origin of the role of Special Advocate, the legal frameworks underpinning it, the duties and responsibilities of the Special Advocate and practical guidance on the procedures applying to proceedings involving Special Advocates.

The closed manual contains sensitive material for the guidance of Special Advocates and is only available to those who have been security vetted to the required level. This will be maintained by the Special Advocates Support Office (SASO).
